Iterated Greedy Graph Coloring and theDi

چکیده

Many heuristic algorithms have been proposed for graph coloring. The simplest is perhaps the greedy algorithm. Many variations have been proposed for this algorithm at various levels of sophistication, but it is generally assumed that the coloring will occur in a single attempt. We note that if a new permutation of the vertices is chosen which respects the independent sets of a previous coloring, then applying the greedy algorithm will result in a new coloring in which the number of colors used does not increase, yet may decrease. We introduce several heuristics for generating new permutations that are fast when implemented and eeective in reducing the coloring number. The resulting Iterated Greedy algorithm(IG) can obtain colorings in the range 100 to 103 on graphs in G 1000; 1 2. More interestingly, it can optimally color k-colorable graphs with k up to 60 and n = 1000, exceeding results of anything in the literature for these graphs. We couple this algorithm with several other coloring algorithms, including a modiied Tabu search, and one that tries to nd large independent sets using a pruned backtrack. With these combined algorithms we nd 86 and 87 colorings for G 1000; 1 2. Finally, we explore the areas of diiculty in probabilistic graph space under a natural parameterization. Speciically, we check our system on k-colorable graphs in G 300;p;k for 0:05 p 0:95 and 2 k 105. We nd a narrow ridge where the algorithms fail to nd the speciied coloring, but easy success everywhere else.

AMultilevel Approach to the Graph Colouring Problem

Wemotivate, derive and implement a multilevel approach to the graph colouring problem. The resulting algorithm progressively coarsens the problem, initialises a colouring and then employs either Culberson’s iterated greedy algorithm or tabu search to refine the solution on each of the coarsened problems in reverse order. Tests on a large suite of problem instances indicate that for low-density ...

An Iterated Greedy Algorithm for Flexible Flow Lines with Sequence Dependent Setup Times to Minimize Total Weighted Completion Time

This paper explores the flexile flow lines where setup times are sequence- dependent. The optimization criterion is the minimization of total weighted completion time. We propose an iterated greedy algorithm (IGA) to tackle the problem. An experimental evaluation is conducted to evaluate the proposed algorithm and, then, the obtained results of IGA are compared against those of some other exist...

An Iterated Greedy Algorithm for Solving the Blocking Flow Shop Scheduling Problem with Total Flow Time Criteria

In this paper, we propose an iterated greedy algorithm for solving the blocking flow shop scheduling problem with total flow time minimization objective. The steps of this algorithm are designed very efficient. For generating an initial solution, we develop an efficient constructive heuristic by modifying the best known NEH algorithm. Effectiveness of the proposed iterated greedy algorithm is t...

الگوریتم ژنتیک با جهش آشوبی هوشمند و ترکیب چند‌نقطه‌ای مکاشفه‌ای برای حل مسئله رنگ‌آمیزی گراف

Graph coloring is a way of coloring the vertices of a graph such that no two adjacent vertices have the same color. Graph coloring problem (GCP) is about finding the smallest number of colors needed to color a given graph. The smallest number of colors needed to color a graph G, is called its chromatic number. GCP is a well-known NP-hard problems and, therefore, heuristic algorithms are usually...
